With a successful international career of over 25 years in management, marketing and sales, Stefan is capable of supporting his key-notes with relevant, practical, and fun anecdotes from his own professional experience.
Although Stefan can engagingly speak about a wide variety of topics, the things that are most close to his (business) heart are transformations (business model, LEAN and digital), circular economy, leadership, branding and customer centricity.
Stefan prefers to actively engage his audience in his presentations. He doesn’t shy away from talking about his own ‘hits and misses’ during his impressive career with ExxonMobil, Philips and Miele. After finishing his study Business Administration and Strategic Management at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Stefan started his professional career in 1991 with ExxonMobil Benelux. During several years he assumed a variety of logistical and (physical) distribution related roles in the Benelux, Germany, Austria and Switzerland in order to become Retail Sales Manager in 1997.
In 2000 he switched to Royal Philips. During his 15 years there, he built significant experience in the field of international marketing and sales. Between 2005 and 2008 he served as Vice President and General Manager for the SDA business in Philips’ home market The Netherlands, before being transferred into several international roles within the global Personal Care division.
Between 2011 and 2015 Stefan was Senior Vice President Female Personal Care. During this time, he helped the business to grow “double digit” every year, while significantly increasing global market share, profitability and brand preference. At the end of 2015, Stefan became CEO for Miele Nederland, the market leader in household appliances for e.g. laundry, dishwashing and floor-care. In his current role, (digital) trans-formation, the development of new business models and branding, are his priorities.
Stefan’s LinkedIn profile provides additional information on his career, additional roles and supervisory directorships.
Extra-curricular roles are allowing Stefan to make an impact in addition to his current job. Especially his presidency for Stichting Witgoed comes with the responsibility to represent approx. 450 member-companies in their challenge to collect, transport and recycle obsolete appliances.
This role brings him in frequent contact with governmental agencies, interest groups and recyclers on the one hand and producers and retailers on the other.
‘Change’ is like a red threat in Stefan’s career. Having managed several transformations at e.g. Philips and Miele, Stefan has an abundance of stories on organizational change. With his practical, down-to-earth approach, he highlights both successful transitions as well as the set-backs and resistance that comes with trying to turn a company around.
Recycling, sustainability and collaborative consumption are all part of a new, ‘circular’ economy and play an important role in how business need to reshape themselves if they want to stay relevant to future generations. It’s one of Stefan’s passions and current priorities at Miele and he loves to share several business cases on the topic. Especially the development of new business models is ‘close to home’ and offers a great starting point for a relevant, constructive and very needed discussion about any organization’s future.
Diversity and inclusiveness in the workforce are gaining importance and with good reason: research clearly shows that companies with more (gender) diversity in middle and upper management do better in terms of profit margins and employee satisfaction. As winner of the 2013 Work4Women Award, Stefan is able to share many critical key factors and practical cases for implementing a successful diversity policy.
